Aid4Action, working in partnership with the voluntary sector organisatios, is working on the following projects:
Health & Wellbeing Sessions
To inform and encourage local people to have a healthier diet, partake in regular physical activities and participate in social/recreational events to improve both physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Digital Literacy
To develop the use of digital skills so that smartphones and laptops can be used to access a wide range of services and to easily find information.
Access to Welfare Services
To provide information, advice and guidance in order for people to be aware of, and apply for, any benefits and help they may be entitled to.
English Language Classes
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes improve the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of local people so that they can more confidently engage with wider society and reduce the reliance on translation and interpretation services.
Trips & Visits
There are regular excursions to local places of interest including museums, galleries, theme parks and places such as Blackpool and the Lake District. The trips introduce local people to new experiences and helps them to meet new people, encouraging them to travel on their own.
Arts & Crafts Classes
These classes include Sewing, Fashion & Design and Painting, encouraging students (especially women from BAME backgrounds) to learn new skills which may help them to pursue a new career, sometimes working from home.
Projects in Pakistan
School Project
The Khursheed Model High School for Girls in the Cantt area of Lahore has 1270 students, mainly from very poor backgrounds is served by 50 teachers and 20 admin staff. The school has the best results in the area. Money from pay-feeing students is not enough to meet all expenses including admin costs, staff salaries and student grants. Fundraising would help to meet these costs and enable even more poor students to benefit from quality education.
RAMADHAN ACTIVITIES:
RAMADHAN FOOD PACKS AND EID GIFTS TO STUDENTS OF ALKHIDMAT FREE SUPPORT SCHOOL, LAHORE.
With financial support from Aid4action, a small free school was opened in January 2018 to educate those boys who could either not go to any school or were withdrawn from a school due to the poor financial condition of their parents.
Clinic Project
The Khursheed High School also houses a family clinic that has treated 10,153 patients free of charge or subsidised since its formation in 2016. Services include curative and referral medical facilities, ultrasonography and intravenous therapy/injections. There are plans for a new Antenatal Clinic.
Employment Projects
We have already provided sewing machines to women who can now provide tailoring services and earn income for their families. Other employment projects are being planned.
Vocational Courses
Training courses to teach practical skills (eg. Sewing, Mobile Phone maintenance, etc) will be organised to help individuals into employment. Companies will be encouraged to take students on work experience placements to help their career prospects. Skilled individuals needed to deliver these courses.
Student Sponsorship
Go to school or eat? Even though free school places can be provided, parents are often forced to put their children to work so that they can earn money for food. Sponsoring a student will allow the child to go to school instead of working to support the family.
Street Children Education Project
Free education is available but when poor children are attending school, they cannot work and earn for their families thus ending up not going to classes.
This project supports a poor child to attend school by paying a small living allowance to the family as well as providing a uniform and other support.
Hygiene and self-esteem are essential for any child and so each child is provided with a Hygiene Pack that includes toothpaste and brush, boot polish and brush, soap, shampoo and head lice comb. This helps the family to look after a child and improving their well-being and confidence.
The Uniform provided is 2 full sets including shoes and pullover.
The Stationery Pack includes school bag, textbooks, notebooks and pencils.
The cost for the above packs is £2.50 per month for each child and the Living Allowance is £10 per month.
In other words, just £12.50 will transform the life of a street child, with free education, family allowance and equipment, giving hope to that child of rising out of poverty and improving their life chances.
